Dwayne Douglas Johnson, known globally as “The Rock,” was born on May 2, 1972, in Hayward, California. He grew up in a family deeply rooted in the wrestling world; his father, Rocky Johnson, and maternal grandfather, Peter Maivia, were both professional wrestlers. Johnson’s early life involved moving around a lot due to his father’s wrestling career, but he eventually settled in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, where he attended high school. An excellent athlete, he played football, participated in track and field, and wrestled. His football talent earned him a scholarship to the University of Miami, where he won a national championship with the team in 1991.
