Charles Manson was convicted of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder for the deaths of seven people. He was sentenced to death in 1971, but his sentence was later commuted to life imprisonment when California abolished the death penalty in 1972. Manson spent the remainder of his life in prison, where he continued to be a figure of media interest until his death on November 19, 2017, at the age of 83.
