John Joseph Gotti Jr. was born on October 27, 1940, in The Bronx, New York City, USA. He was an American national of Italian descent. Gotti grew up in a poor family and quickly became involved in criminal activities. By the age of 16, he had joined a local street gang affiliated with the Gambino crime family, one of the Five Families that dominated organized crime in New York City.
