T-Series, officially Super Cassettes Industries Private Limited, is an Indian music and film production company and one of the world’s largest digital entertainment brands. Its YouTube channel is the second most-subscribed on the platform, with over 314 million subscribers as of mid-2026, and the company itself is privately held, so no independently verified net worth figure exists, though industry estimates have placed its overall valuation in the hundreds of millions to low billions of dollars.

Early Life & Family

T-Series was founded on July 11, 1983, by Gulshan Kumar, who built the company from a cassette retail and duplication business into a major producer and distributor of devotional music and Bollywood film soundtracks. Kumar was murdered in 1997, after which leadership passed to his family.

Rise to Fame

Under the leadership of Gulshan Kumar’s son, Bhushan Kumar, who now serves as Chairman and Managing Director, T-Series expanded from music cassettes into a dominant force in Bollywood film production and, later, digital distribution. The company’s YouTube channel, launched in 2006, became the most-subscribed channel in the world in 2017 and held that position for nearly five years before being overtaken by MrBeast in June 2024.

Career History

T-Series today owns one of the largest music catalogs in India, controlling an estimated 35 percent of the Indian recorded-music market, and has produced more than 100 films. The company operates a multi-channel network of 43 YouTube channels across Indian languages with a combined total exceeding 591 million subscribers, alongside its flagship channel’s 314 million subscribers and roughly 350 billion cumulative views as of July 2026.

How They Built Their Wealth

T-Series generates revenue through music licensing, film production and distribution, and digital advertising, with online revenue — driven primarily by YouTube ad income — accounting for at least 60 percent of the company’s overall earnings. The business remains privately held by the Kumar family, so no audited or independently verified valuation figure is publicly available.

More than four decades after its founding, T-Series remains one of the most influential and financially significant entertainment companies to emerge from India, with a digital reach that rivals any media brand in the world.
