Reply All was an American podcast produced by Gimlet Media that ran from 2014 to 2022, exploring how people shape the internet and how the internet shapes people. Created by P.J. Vogt and Alex Goldman, it was known for blending investigative journalism, humor, and empathetic storytelling across 189 episodes.

Early Life & Family

Reply All was created by P.J. Vogt and Alex Goldman, who served as its original co-hosts, launching the show under Gimlet Media in 2014. Emmanuel Dzotsi, who had previously worked on Serial, joined as a third co-host in 2020.

Rise to Fame

The podcast became known for its investigative and often humorous approach to internet culture and human stories, earning multiple Webby Awards, including for Best Podcast Series and Best Hosts, as it built a large, dedicated audience.

Career History

In 2021, Reply All faced significant turmoil after an aborted podcast special about Bon Appetit magazine, called “The Test Kitchen,” drew criticism of the show’s own internal work environment at Gimlet Media. Vogt and another producer left the show following the backlash.

After a lengthy hiatus, Reply All returned with original co-host Alex Goldman alongside Emmanuel Dzotsi. Both hosts departed in 2022, and the podcast released its final episode on June 23, 2022, ending an eight-year run of 189 episodes.

How They Built Their Wealth

As a Gimlet Media (later Spotify-owned) production, Reply All generated revenue through advertising and sponsorships sold against its episode downloads. Specific financial figures for the show, or for its individual hosts, were not publicly disclosed.

Reply All remains a widely cited example of narrative internet-culture podcasting, remembered both for its storytelling innovations and for the internal controversy that contributed to its 2022 ending.
