Hughlett began his football career at the University of Central Florida, where he was a standout long snapper for the Knights. After going undrafted in the 2012 NFL Draft, Hughlett signed with the Dallas Cowboys but was later released before the start of the regular season. He then spent time with the New England Patriots and the Jacksonville Jaguars before finding a home with the Browns.
