Montgomery began his football career playing college football for Austin Peay State University in Tennessee. He had an impressive collegiate career, accumulating 98 receptions for 1,113 yards and 11 touchdowns in his junior and senior seasons. His performance caught the attention of NFL scouts, ultimately leading to him signing with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent in 2019.
