Griffith began his football career at the University of Indiana, where he played as a linebacker for the Hoosiers. His exceptional skills and talent on the field caught the attention of NFL scouts, and he was signed as an undrafted free agent by the San Francisco 49ers in 2020. He spent the majority of his rookie season on the practice squad before being released.
