In 2020, Kirkwood signed with the Carolina Panthers but was waived before the start of the season due to an injury. He then signed with the New England Patriots but was released before the regular season began. In January 2021, he signed a reserve/future contract with the San Francisco 49ers but was waived in July 2021.
