Martin started his football career playing college football at Appalachian State University before transferring to Southern Methodist University (SMU). He was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the fifth round of the 2013 NFL Draft and played for the Lions for six seasons from 2013 to 2018. In 2019, Martin signed with the Denver Broncos and played with them for one season before joining the Buffalo Bills in 2020.
