Jones moved into coaching in 2007 as assistant manager to Roberto Martínez at Swansea City, and followed Martínez to Wigan Athletic, Everton and the Belgium national team, helping Belgium reach the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup. He had a spell as manager of Luton Town from May 2019 to April 2020. He later joined Newcastle United’s coaching staff, briefly serving as interim head coach for two matches in 2021 following Steve Bruce’s departure, before continuing as a senior coach under Eddie Howe, a role he still holds in 2026.
