Šunjić began his professional career with the Croatian club NK Lokomotiva Zagreb in 2012. He spent four seasons with NK Lokomotiva Zagreb before making a move to another Croatian club, Dinamo Zagreb, in 2016. During his time at Dinamo Zagreb, Šunjić established himself as a key player in the midfield and helped the club win the Croatian First Football League in the 2017-2018 season.
