Roberts was born on July 30, 1990, in Wakefield, England. He began his career playing for the youth team at Wakefield FC before moving on to play for the West Yorkshire club FC Halifax Town in 2013. Roberts quickly established himself as a key player for Halifax and helped the team achieve promotion to the National League in his first season with the club.
