Villeneuve began his racing career in his native Canada before moving to Europe to compete in Formula Atlantic and Formula 2. His big break came in 1977 when he joined the Ferrari team as a replacement for Niki Lauda, who had been seriously injured in a crash. Villeneuve quickly made a name for himself with his incredible speed and skill behind the wheel.
