Taylor began his career at Luton Town before moving on to play for Portsmouth in 2002. He spent four years at Portsmouth, making over 140 appearances for the club. In 2006, he joined Bolton Wanderers, where he played for three years before moving on to West Ham United in 2008. Taylor had a brief stint at West Ham before joining Burnley in 2011. He spent three years at Burnley before signing with Cheltenham Town in 2014. In 2016, Taylor joined Bristol Rovers, where he has been a key player for the club.
