Rise to Fame

Sarmiento trained in the Charlton Athletic academy from 2009 to 2018 before a spell with Portuguese giants Benfica between 2018 and 2021, then joined Brighton & Hove Albion’s academy in July 2021. He made his senior debut for Brighton that September in an EFL Cup win over Swansea City, followed by his Premier League debut against Leeds United in November 2021.

After breaking through at Brighton, Sarmiento spent several seasons out on loan to gain first-team experience, including spells at West Bromwich Albion, Ipswich Town, Burnley and Cremonese in Italy’s Serie B. He joined Middlesbrough on loan in 2026 before the move was made permanent in May 2026.
