Oktoberfest (Germany)

The origins of Oktoberfest date back to 1810 when it was first held to celebrate the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig (later King Ludwig I) to Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen. The festivities were so popular that they became an annual event. Today, the festival is held at the Theresienwiese (Theresa’s Meadow), named after the princess.
