Mbappe was born in the Paris suburb of Bondy to a football coach father, Wilfried, of Cameroonian descent, and a former handball player mother, Fayza, of Algerian descent. He joined the youth academy of AS Bondy, his father’s club, before moving through the French youth system and briefly training at Clairefontaine, France’s elite national academy.
