O’Donnell’s journey in football began when he joined the youth academy at hometown club Sheffield Wednesday. He made his professional debut in 2007 and went on to play for several clubs in the English Football League, including Chesterfield, Macclesfield Town, Rotherham United, and Bristol City. O’Donnell also had successful loan spells at clubs such as Grimsby Town and York City.
