In 2010, Lopetegui retired from professional football and transitioned into coaching. He went on to coach the Spanish U19, U20, and U21 teams before becoming the head coach of FC Porto in 2014. Lopetegui’s coaching career was highly successful, and he eventually became the head coach of the Spanish national team in 2016.
