Ryotaro Tsunoda is a Japanese professional footballer who plays as a centre-back or left-back, most recently associated with J1 League club Yokohama F. Marinos after a largely unsuccessful spell with Welsh club Cardiff City. No reliable public net worth figure exists for him.

Early Life & Family

Tsunoda was born on June 27, 1999, in Saitama Prefecture, Japan. He came through the Kitaurawa youth system before joining the Urawa Red Diamonds academy between 2015 and 2017, and attended Maebashi Ikuei High School. He went on to study at the University of Tsukuba between 2018 and 2020 while continuing to develop as a player.

Rise to Fame

Tsunoda signed for Yokohama F. Marinos in 2020 and became a first-team squad member, making 36 league appearances and winning the J1 League championship with the club in 2022. His performances led to a call-up to Japan’s senior national team for the Kirin Challenge Cup in March 2023, in addition to earlier youth caps at under-18 and under-20 level.

Career History

In January 2024, Tsunoda signed for Championship club Cardiff City — a move connected to the fact that Cardiff owner Vincent Tan is also a majority shareholder at Yokohama F. Marinos. He never made a competitive appearance for Cardiff, instead going out on loan to Belgian club KV Kortrijk, where he made 9 appearances before suffering a serious hamstring injury in March 2024 that required surgery and ended his season. He returned to Kortrijk on a second loan in January 2025, adding 12 further appearances, before rejoining Yokohama F. Marinos, initially on loan and subsequently for a permanent fee, without ever having played a competitive match for Cardiff City.

How They Built Their Wealth

Tsunoda’s income has come from his playing contracts in Japan’s J1 League and, briefly, from his Championship contract at Cardiff City, which he never played for competitively. No salary or net worth figures for him have been made public.

Ryotaro Tsunoda’s career has been defined by title-winning success in Japan with Yokohama F. Marinos and an ill-fated, injury-disrupted move to Wales that never produced a competitive appearance. No verifiable net worth figure exists for him.
