Sakamoto started his professional football career at a young age, playing for the youth teams of various clubs in Japan before making his senior debut for the Japanese club Yokohama FC in 2013. He quickly established himself as a key player for the team, showcasing his technical abilities and vision on the field. After impressing scouts with his performances, Sakamoto was eventually signed by Coventry City in 2017.
