Raghav Chadha before the fame

The background and early turning points that shaped Raghav Chadha’s route to prominence.

Raghav Chadha was born on 11 November 1988 in central Delhi, the son of Sunil Chadha, and schooled at Modern School in the city. He took a commerce degree from the University of Delhi in 2009 and qualified as a chartered accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India in 2011 — the two qualifications his own sworn filing lists under education. His early years were in audit and advisory work, with stints at Deloitte and Grant Thornton that Business Today records.

Every figure here is in US dollars, converted once from rupees at 95 to the dollar, the market rate on 23 October 2026. That one rate is applied to filings made in different years, so the amounts below are those filings’ rupee sums on a single consistent basis.

He joined the Aam Aadmi Party as a founding member in 2012, worked on the drafting of the Delhi Lokpal Bill, and was made its national treasurer in 2015 at the age of 26. He served as an adviser inside the Delhi government until April 2018, then stood in the 2019 general election for South Delhi, which he did not win.

The money at that stage was small and he declared it himself: the 2019 filing put his total assets at about $17,300.

Raghav Chadha’s breakthrough years

The career decisions and defining moments that turned recognition into sustained earning power.

Elected office is what pays him, so the figures that matter are a statutory pay scale and three sworn filings, all of it on the public record.

What the sworn filings show

  • 2019, general election, South Delhi. Declared assets about $17,300.
  • 2020, Delhi assembly, Rajinder Nagar. Declared assets about $21,000, liabilities nil, per his 2020 assembly filing.
  • 2022, Rajya Sabha nomination from Punjab. Total declared assets about $38,900, liabilities and government dues nil, per his Election Commission affidavit. Business Today reads the itemisation as roughly $320 in cash, $6,700 in bonds and shares and a Maruti Swift Dzire at $1,400.
  • Income tax. That filing records total income of about $2,600 for 2020–21, and names his income sources as chartered accountancy work, his assembly salary and interest.

What the office pays

As a Delhi legislator from February 2020 until he resigned the seat on 24 March 2022, as The Tribune reported, he drew salary and allowances of about $570 a month on the scale then in force — roughly $14,000 in all.

He took his Rajya Sabha seat on 10 April 2022. Members’ pay was revised from 1 April 2023, and Onmanorama sets out the revised rates: salary about $1,305 a month, a constituency allowance of about $916, a daily allowance of about $26 for each sitting day, and separately an office expense allowance of about $789 a month. Running the old rates to March 2023 and the new ones since, at roughly sixty sitting days a year, gives about $123,000 in parliamentary pay to late October 2026. With the assembly years the craft total is about $137,000 in salary and allowances from public office since February 2020 — our arithmetic from published rates. The office expense allowance is left out deliberately: earmarked for a computer-literate assistant and stationery, it funds an office rather than a person, and the $41,000 it comes to over the period enters nothing.

What Raghav Chadha’s work can earn

Reported pay, contracts, royalties and performance income reveal how the fortune was funded.

He won the Rajinder Nagar seat in the Delhi assembly election of February 2020 and was vice chairman of the Delhi Jal Board, the city’s water utility, from March 2020 to March 2022. He was then elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Punjab, taking office on 10 April 2022 at 33, the youngest member of the House at the time, as Madhyamam noted. He sits on the Rajya Sabha Committee on External Affairs, whose membership list PRS Legislative Research carries, and Dynamite News reported his nomination to it again in the reconstitution effective 26 September 2026. On 20 May 2026 the Chairman of the House appointed him chairman of the Committee on Petitions, a ten-member panel, as ETV Bharat reported.

The recognition has come from outside Parliament as much as inside it. The World Economic Forum named him a Young Global Leader in 2022. In January 2023 he was chosen as an Outstanding Achiever in the government and politics category at the India UK Achievers Honours in London, which Madhyamam covered; the award recognises Indians who studied in the United Kingdom.

Raghav Chadha’s business beyond the main career

Endorsements, ownership interests and investments can keep compounding long after the initial breakthrough.

A serving parliamentarian’s outside remuneration is a regulated matter rather than a commercial one. Rajya Sabha members declare remunerated interests — directorships, regular paid activity, controlling shareholdings, paid consultancy and professional engagement — in the House’s register of members’ interests, kept by its ethics committee.

What is public is his own filing, which names professional fees, an assembly salary and interest. The working takes those at face value and credits him with no sponsorship or appearance income.

What the filing says about outside interests

His professional practice is the business interest the record carries, described in the filing in his own words: chartered accountancy work, listed with his assembly salary and interest. The sums are modest by the standards of this site — the 2020–21 return shows about $2,600 of total income, and Business Today puts the 2019 filing’s figure at about $2,300.

The affidavit’s separate schedules for government contracts, partnership firms and private companies in which a candidate holds shares come back unmarked, so our working carries nothing for a practice stake, a directorship or a shareholding.

Raghav Chadha’s notable luxury item

A reported property or major asset offers a tangible glimpse of the wealth behind the public estimate.

This section is short, and that is the finding rather than a gap. Every immovable category in the 2022 affidavit — agricultural land, non-agricultural land, commercial buildings, residential buildings and others — comes back nil, for himself and for every dependent, as do liabilities, bank loans, government dues and disputed amounts. The whole declared total is movable.

One boundary needs stating once. He married the actress Parineeti Chopra on 24 September 2023, after the 2022 nomination, and the spouse column in that filing is marked not applicable. Her earnings and assets are hers, form no part of the filing this estimate is built on, and are excluded from the figure.

Raghav Chadha’s estimated net worth

$70,000

Public estimates vary because private contracts, investments, taxes and liabilities are not fully disclosed.

How this estimate is calculated

The method is his own sworn total, rolled forward. The 2022 affidavit is the Indian equivalent of a financial disclosure and it is the anchor; everything after it is arithmetic on published rates.

  • Declared base, April 2022: $38,900 movable, nil immovable, nil liabilities, as sworn in his Election Commission affidavit.
  • Bonds and shares of about $6,700, at the rate an Indian equity index returned over four and a half years: about $11,000.
  • The vehicle, declared at $1,400, depreciated: about $700.
  • The remaining movable balance of about $30,500, at Indian deposit rates of six to seven per cent: about $40,500.
  • Retained office pay, computed from the revised rates. Of the $123,000 since the filing, the salary component is about $69,000 and taxable, with income tax of roughly $6,000. The constituency allowance of about $48,000 is exempt and earmarked for constituency costs; the daily allowance of about $7,000 offsets attendance. Retaining a quarter to two fifths of the net salary adds about $18,000.

The four roll-forward lines sum to about $70,200. The working supports a band of $55,000 to $85,000, and the figure we publish is that band’s midpoint, which at this scale we round to the nearest five thousand dollars.

The weakest line is the movable balance. The itemisation accounts for cash, securities and a car, and the balance of roughly $30,500 sits in the affidavit’s other movable heads; deposits and policies are the ordinary contents of those heads for a salaried chartered accountant, and that is what the growth rate assumes. Held in equities instead, the answer rises by several thousand dollars; held as a non-earning advance, it falls. What would settle it is his next sworn filing, which itemises every movable head line by line and would replace this calculation with a single number.

Confidence: Partly documented — the base is his own sworn Election Commission affidavit and the pay comes from published parliamentary rates, but the four-and-a-half-year roll-forward from that filing is ours.

His public standing rests on the water utility brief and on a following built through coverage of parliamentary work — the asset a political career accumulates in place of a balance sheet. The working carries nothing for the committee or utility appointments.

His own affidavit lists three pending criminal cases, all in the defamation and public-mischief family: sections 499, 500 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code in a Delhi complaint case, section 505 in an Uttar Pradesh matter, and sections 500 and 505(2) with section 66 of the Information Technology Act in a third. The filing records charges as not framed in any, and no convictions.

He was suspended from the Rajya Sabha on 11 August 2023 over an alleged breach of privilege concerning signatures on a select committee motion; the Chairman revoked the suspension on 4 December 2023, as The Tribune reported.

His party affiliation changed in 2026: The Quint reported on 24 April that he and six other members resigned from the Aam Aadmi Party and announced a merger with the Bharatiya Janata Party, and the government’s own news service that the Chairman accepted the merger of seven members on 27 April. He remains a sitting member for Punjab, so the pay above continues uninterrupted.
