Saudi Aramco was founded in 1933 as the California-Arabian Standard Oil Company (CASOC), a joint venture between Standard Oil of California (now Chevron) and the Saudi Arabian government. It was renamed the Arabian American Oil Company (Aramco) in 1944 and fully nationalized by the Saudi government in 1980. Headquartered in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, Saudi Aramco has grown into the world’s leading integrated energy and chemicals company. It operates the world’s largest single hydrocarbon network, the Master Gas System, and is a key player in the global energy sector.
