Gotti rose through the ranks of the Gambino family, known for his ruthless tactics and charismatic personality. He became a made man in the family in 1977 and eventually orchestrated the assassination of Paul Castellano, the then-boss of the Gambino family, in 1985. Following Castellano’s death, Gotti took over as the head of the family, earning the nickname “The Teflon Don” because charges against him often didn’t stick due to his ability to evade conviction through jury tampering and witness intimidation.
