Despite his wealth and influence, Bin Laden’s life ended in obscurity and isolation. He was killed by U.S. Navy SEALs on May 2, 2011, during a raid on his compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan. At the time of his death, Bin Laden was living in relative seclusion, cut off from much of his financial network due to international efforts to freeze his assets and disrupt Al-Qaeda’s funding sources.
