Johnson was educated at the European School, Brussels I, Ashdown House, and Eton College before attending Balliol College, Oxford, where he studied Classics. His early career was in journalism, where he worked for publications such as The Times and The Daily Telegraph, eventually becoming the editor of The Spectator.
