Leatherwood played college football at the University of Alabama, where he was a standout player for the Crimson Tide. He was a key member of the team that won the College Football Playoff National Championship in 2020. During his time at Alabama, Leatherwood was a two-time First Team All-SEC selection and a unanimous All-American in 2020.
