Sutton attended SMU where he played college football for the Mustangs. During his time at SMU, he emerged as one of the top receivers in the country and was named a first-team All-American Athletic Conference selection. In his senior year, Sutton recorded 68 receptions for 1,085 yards and 12 touchdowns.
