Savage attended Caravel Academy in Bear, Delaware, where he excelled in football and track and field. He went on to play college football at the University of Maryland, where he was a standout player for the Terrapins. In his junior year, Savage recorded 52 tackles, 4 interceptions, and 2 forced fumbles, earning him First Team All-Big Ten honors.
