After high school, Jaelan Phillips went on to play college football at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). However, his time at UCLA was plagued by injuries, which limited his playing time and effectiveness on the field. Despite this, Phillips showed glimpses of his potential, recording 41 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks in his two seasons with the Bruins.
