In the 2021 NFL Draft, Patterson went undrafted but was later signed by the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent. He spent the preseason with the team but was ultimately released before the regular season began. However, Patterson’s determination and hard work paid off when he was signed to the practice squad of the Houston Texans in November 2021. He was later promoted to the active roster and saw playing time in several games during the season
