After high school, Mixon went on to play college football at the University of Oklahoma. During his time at Oklahoma, he proved to be a dynamic playmaker on the field, rushing for over 2,000 yards and scoring 17 touchdowns in his sophomore season. Mixon’s impressive performance at Oklahoma caught the attention of NFL scouts, leading to his selection by the Houston Texans in the 2017 NFL Draft.
