Hicks attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he played college football for the Texas Longhorns. He quickly made a name for himself as a standout linebacker and caught the attention of NFL scouts. In the 2015 NFL Draft, Hicks was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the third round as the 84th overall pick.
