Phillips attended the University of Oklahoma and played college football for the Oklahoma Sooners. After an impressive college career, he was selected by the Miami Dolphins in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft. Phillips spent four seasons with the Dolphins before signing with the Buffalo Bills in 2018. He played two seasons with the Bills before signing with the Arizona Cardinals in 2020. In March 2021, Phillips signed with the New York Giants.
