Richards began his footballing journey with the youth academy at Fulham before making his professional debut for the club in 2017. He spent three seasons with Fulham, making over 40 appearances for the first team before signing with Reading in the summer of 2021. Richards impressed with his performances at Reading, which earned him a move to Nottingham Forest in the January transfer window of 2022.
