Mangala was born on March 18, 1998, in Brussels, Belgium. He began his youth career at Anderlecht before moving to Borussia Dortmund in 2016. He made his professional debut for Borussia Dortmund II in the Regionalliga West, before being loaned out to Hamburger SV in the 2. Bundesliga for the 2017-2018 season.
