McCollum played college football at Texas A&M University, where he garnered attention for his strong performances on the field. In his senior year, he earned First-Team All-SEC honors as well as being named a team captain. His impressive collegiate career led to him being signed as an undrafted free agent by the Steelers in May 2021.
