Despite his talent behind the wheel, Depailler faced numerous challenges throughout his career, including injuries that sidelined him for extended periods. In 1980, while testing for the Alfa Romeo team at Hockenheim, Depailler suffered a fatal accident that tragically cut short his promising career.
