Pines began his career playing college soccer for the University of Maryland Terrapins. During his time with the Terrapins, he was a standout player and quickly caught the attention of MLS scouts. In 2019, Pines was signed by D.C. United in Major League Soccer (MLS). He made his professional debut for D.C. United in July 2019 and quickly established himself as a key player in the team’s defense.
