In order to gain valuable first-team experience, Laird has been loaned out to various clubs. In January 2021, he joined MK Dons on loan for the remainder of the season, where he made a significant impact with his performances. Following his loan spell at MK Dons, Laird joined Swansea City on loan for the 2021-2022 season before moving to Birmingham City in January 2022 on loan.
