Cantrill began his youth career at Sheffield Wednesday, one of the most historic football clubs in England. He spent several years developing his skills at the club before making his professional debut for Sheffield Wednesday in 2017. During his time at Sheffield Wednesday, Cantrill also had loan spells at both non-league clubs and lower league teams to gain valuable playing experience.
