Lankester began his football career at Ipswich Town, where he joined the youth academy at a young age. He made his first-team debut for Ipswich Town in 2018 and quickly caught the eye with his impressive performances. Lankester played a key role for Ipswich Town before joining Cambridge United on loan in January 2021.
