Kean began his career at his hometown club, Rochdale, before joining the youth academy at Blackburn Rovers. He made his first-team debut for Blackburn in the Premier League in 2011 and went on to have loan spells at various clubs including Hartlepool United, Yeovil Town, Oldham Athletic, and Mansfield Town.
