Böðvarsson began his professional football career at Selfoss in his native Iceland before moving to Norway to play for Viking FK in 2013. He then moved to the English Championship, where he played for Wolverhampton Wanderers and Reading before signing with Millwall in 2017. In 2021, Böðvarsson signed with Bolton Wanderers on a free transfer, where he continues to showcase his skills on the field.
