Dempsey began his career at Huddersfield Town, where he came through the youth academy and made his first-team debut in December 2013. He went on to make 81 appearances for the club before signing for Fleetwood Town in July 2015. During his time at Fleetwood, Dempsey made 121 appearances and scored 16 goals, establishing himself as a key player for the club.
