Connell began his youth career at his local club, Crewe Alexandra, before joining the academy of Premier League giants, Liverpool. However, it was at Bolton Wanderers where Connell really made a name for himself, breaking into the first team and showcasing his talent in midfield. He made his professional debut for Bolton in the EFL Championship in the 2018-2019 season, catching the eye of scouts with his mature performances despite his young age.
