In 2014, Etheridge joined Walsall on a permanent basis and quickly established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper. He made over 90 appearances for the club before attracting the attention of Cardiff City, who signed him in 2017. Etheridge played a key role in helping Cardiff secure promotion to the Premier League in his debut season with the club.
