Widdrington started his career at Southampton, where he made over 100 appearances for the club before moving on to play for teams such as Grimsby Town, Port Vale, Macclesfield Town, and Hartlepool United. He also had stints at Portsmouth and Rotherham United before eventually joining Aldershot Town in 2009.
