At AZ Alkmaar, Weghorst continued to impress, scoring goals consistently and earning a call-up to the Dutch national team. In the summer of 2018, he made a move to the Bundesliga, joining VfL Wolfsburg. Weghorst’s time at Wolfsburg saw him establish himself as one of the most prolific strikers in the league, scoring over 40 goals in all competitions.
